Geoff Gilmer (USAF, SSGT EOD) Hikes to the Summit of Mt. Princeton and Places a Flag for Alex at the top of the Summit.
Alex’s younger brother Geoff Gilmer (USAF, SSGT EOD) came to visit us for a few days in September, 2015. While visiting, Geoff, just like older brother Adam did a few years ago with friends, and sister Gloria did with her boyfriend, Nick, in August, 2015, hiked to the top of Mt Princeton (14,197 ft above sea level) in Buena Vista, Colorado.
Geoff carried a small flag with him while he hiked, and placed it on top of the mountain upon his summit. (I wrote on the flag stick: In memory of Alex 10/09/1984 to 2/06/2010, AlexGilmerScholarship.org, We Love Alex. Apply-Donate-Fly.) Geoff wasn’t really alone because many times the last ~ five years when our family is together or alone we feel our Alex’s presence. Alex loved the adventure and beauty of God’s creation all around us. He spent many hours/days/weeks with family and friends enjoying the outdoors by camping, hiking, rock and ice climbing, rope jumping, skiing, skydiving, etc and piloting planes along and above the Continental Divide as well as flights from Colorado to Alaska, the Western United States, and Mexico.
We were so thankful Geoff placed this flag at the summit for his brother. Alex would have been 31 years old on October 9th 2015. We miss him dearly everyday.
Sincerely,
with love and appreciation for all of your support over the years,
Todd and Mary Gilmer, Gianna (Jon) Skates, Adam, Geoff & Gloria
